Holmes County's western border is formed by the Yazoo River and the eastern border by the Big Black River. Our county seat is Lexington, Mississippi which was named in honor of Lexington, Massachusetts. Holmes County was the birthplace of the Order of the Eastern Star (a Masonic type lodge that offered membership to women.) Holmes County is also the birthplace of the 4-H movement, which began as a local community corn club.
Holmes County is a great place to call home. We are home to thriving small businesses, a great school system, and entertaining culture. Come visit our communities and discover our county's great charm. Holmes County is ready to impress you with our Southern ways and open arms.
Our deepest Condolences
The Holmes County Board of Supervisors wishes to express their deepest sympathies on the sudden demise of Supervisor Alphonzo "Big Money" Greer. Our hearts, prayers and thoughts are with the Greer Family.
